U-God Says Kanye West Needs To “Come Back On Planet Earth”
U-God has enjoyed a long career as part of the Wu-Tang Clan, now celebrating 20 years in the game. With that longevity, Golden Arms has the resume to speak on the stars of today as he’s set to release his fourth solo album Tuesday (July 23). The Staten Island native talked the new record, the Clan’s tenure and had words for a certain Chicago superstar.
U-God, who is releasing Keynote Speaker on RZA‘s Soul Temple Records, spoke with the Huffington Post and dropped a few gems. It appears the veteran studies Hip-Hop’s current stars closely, giving props to Kendrick Lamar and Drake. However, U-God was a little tougher on Kanye West’s latest effort, Yeezus, and shunning it in favor of Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail.
“Jay’s in a creative zone, and he had to adjust to the digital age. He had to make that transition like any other artist,” said U-God. “The man is always going to have lyrics and be rhyming.”
His tone changed quite a bit when discussing Yeezy, though.
“Tell him there’s no sound in space. He’s got to come back on planet Earth. Space is a vacuum. There’s no sound in space. Earth is where it’s at. Come back down baby, come back,” added U-God. At 42, U-God still seems to have a hunger for the art.
“This is my family, so when you have a family and you have a discrepancy, you still have to take care of situations,” U-God shared. “You’re going to go through ups and downs. But we stick together because we just understand.
