Dom Kennedy discussed Get Home Safely, having the choice to decide his fate in the music industry and much more with The Stashed in one of his first interviews of recent memory.

The west coaster has carved a niche lane for himself as an MC that’s an integral part of Hip-Hop during the summer months. That’s why fans are scratching their heads at Kennedy’s absence and more importantly, his long-delayed project.

As selfish fans, we clearly don’t understand the rapper’s plight.

At one time, he contemplated leaving the game indefinitely. “I never made no money in the music industry,” said Kennedy, who later clarified that he’s earned a good living from music without support from a major label.

He continued, “How do I trust you now? That’s what Get Home Safely is about.” That trust, or lack thereof, seems to be directed towards labels that counted him out, but even with this in mind, the Lemeirt Park native ensures that this body of work will be lighthearted.

“I made Get Home Safely partly inspired by my homeboy. One of my best friends from elementary school died last year and it was a personal mission of mine to dedicate this whole whatever it’s going to be to him.”

In his legacy, Kennedy says he will celebrate their good times on wax, but still hasn’t revealed a release date. Check out the full interview below.
