Filmmaker Spike Lee reached his Kickstarter fundraising milestone earlier today (August 16). In just 26 days, the Brooklyn native was able to raise $1.3 million for an upcoming film project.

As reported by Variety, Lee’s campaign raised $1.302,891 with days to spare before the August 21 deadline. The film, currently known as the vaguely titled “The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint,” was supported by varying levels of donations from 5,368 participants. Lee showed his gratitude via social media earlier this afternoon.

“Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Supporters. You bet on the mule,” tweeted Lee, who also attached the emotional video where he expressed thanks while adding via a profanity-laced statement that he will continue creating his art.

“40 Acres And A Mule, We been doing this motherf—ker since 19 motherf—ing 86,” said a charged Lee. “And we will continue to make our films. They can throw brick backs, hurdles, whatever they can, in our way…we will do what needs to be done to make our stories and tell our stories.”

Lee has teased in the past that the film will be “funny, sexy and bloody (and it’s not ‘Blacula‘),” referring to the campy 1970s blaxploitation vampire film. So far, British actress Zaraah Abrahams has been tapped for the lead role.

Congratulations to Spike Lee! Check out the thank you video below.
