The ongoing buzz around the alleged assault of Baltimore Ravens player Jacoby Jones by a stripper named Sweet Pea has been debunked by a teammate who says he witnessed the whole thing. On his radio show, Bryant Mckinnie confirmed Sweet Pea did exchange words with someone outside a Washington nightclub but said a tipster got the story wrong.

Deadspin reported on Mckinnie’s depiction of the events early Monday (Sept. 23 morning), and he stated that Jones was not struck in the head with a champagne bottle. Jones’ agent confirmed earlier in the week that his client was well enough to practice but didn’t share much beyond that.

What turned heads, however was Mckinnie, who has been known to kick it with the shake club queens, saying that TMZ gave him the scoop on who gave them the scoop for the sensationalized story.

From Deadspin:

“I have a friend at TMZ, but she’s on maternity leave,” McKinnie said. “Normally, if something like this would go out, I would get a phone call first, and she would say, ‘Well, what’s going on?’ But she wasn’t at work, so I didn’t get the phone call.

“She hit me up after the fact, and she actually told me who sent the story in. And that’s how we found out—me and Jacoby both found out—who it was. It was a girl who just doesn’t have a good reputation. I don’t even know how she managed to find her way on the bus. I don’t know she might have got paid for the story or whatever.”

We don’t blame the Ravens for heading down 95 South to the Nation’s Capital to get it in, but hopefully they’ve learned a lesson and will screen the “talent” ahead of time for future party bus events.
