CBS Testing MC Serch Hosted Talk Show Serch In January

Add MC Serch to the short list of Hip-Hop artists turned daytime talk show hosts. The former 3rd Bass rapper will be hosting Serch for a four episode trial run beginning in January 2014.

Deadline reports:

In CBS TV Distribution‘s first major move under the new regime, the company is launching Serch, a syndicated daytime hourlong talk show hosted by one of the first white rappers who has been performing under the name MC Serch. (watch music video below) The show will begin a four-week test run on Tribune stations in eight markets, including New York and Los Angeles, on January 6, 2014. This is the first time the Tribune stations are participating in such a trial run, a practice introduced by the Fox stations, which try out new syndicated talk shows for six weeks in the summer. Serch extends the relationship between CDT and Tribune who are partnered on two new syndicated shows this fall, Arsenio and The Test.

Serch won’t be the rapper born Michael Berrin simply bringing on celebrities for interviews, though. Serch will instead interact with his real world guests by consulting with them about problems and issues they have in their lives. The “Back To The Grill” rapper will then use his “street smarts” and know how to help resolve those issues.

“Serch has such an interesting, unique life story that makes him relatable to a wide audience,” CDT’s EVP Maureen FitzPatrick told Deadline. “He connects with different communities, has a message to share about taking personal responsibility for your life choices and is on a mission to help people change their lives.”

Serch previously hosted the VH1 reality series Ego Trip’s The (White) Rapper Show.

Starting January 6, 2014, Serch will air onTribune stations: WPIX, New York; KTLA, Los Angeles; WPHL, Philadelphia; KDAF, Dallas; WDCW, Washington DC; WSFL, Miami; WXIN, Indianapolis; and KSWB, San Diego.
