For over two years, a mysterious Twitter user tormented the Obama administration by criticizing the president’s foreign policy and leaking inside information to the public. The person behind the account, a White House official, was fired last week after the person’s identify was discovered.

In an exclusive report from The Daily Beast, details regarding the firing of Jofi Joseph, a director of the National Security Staff at the White House, were unveiled. Tweeting under the name “@natsecwonk” since February 2011, the feed rose to infamy within political news circles for taking aim at various figures such as President Obama, Sen. John Kerry, and others. Joseph was also critical of Republicans via the account as well.

From The Daily Beast:

Two administration officials confirmed that the mystery tweeter was Joseph, who has also worked at the State Department and on Capitol Hill for Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Joe Biden. Until recently, he was part of the administration’s team working on negotiations with Iran.

During his time tweeting under the @natsecwonk name, Joseph openly criticized the policies of his White House bosses and often insulted their intellect and appearance. At different times, he insulted or criticized several top White House and State Department officials, including former National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, Secretary of State John Kerry, and many many others.

Joseph’s wife, Carolyn Leddy, is a staffer for the Republican side of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. There is no word yet if Leddy fed Joseph information for his Twitter fodder. Conservative pundits are already having a field day with this latest crack within the White House.

Head over to The Daily Beast to see a record of Joseph’s tweets.
