When it comes to street credibility in Hip-Hop, whatever that really means, the Wu-Tang Clan’s is irrefutable. Nevertheless, U-God shows plenty of love for artists who aren’t worried about trying to be hood, in particularly YMCMB’s Drake.
Baby U has no beef with soft baked rappers. “I have no quarrels with the dudes that don’t come from the streets,” U-God told Hip-Hop Wired. “But you can hear it in they rhymes. You can tell who’s really gutter by the way they talk, the way they rhyme, you can tell.”
He added, “Like Drake, he ain’t worried about being street. That’s why I like that ni**a. He neutral. Yeah! Stay right there. That’s cool. Let street ni**as be street ni**as, let [you be] who he be. That’s how it’s supposed to be. You ain’t gotta pretend.”
From that point, Shaolin rapper went on a lengthy, and often hilarious diatribe about light skin and brown skin relations in the Black community. Plenty of knowledge gets dropped by the Staten Island native, actually. He also elaborates more on that “Wu-Tang Forever” remix that Drizzy has in the stash, somewhere.
