Over Friday (November 15) evening, Jay Z issued a second statement that he would proceed with his partnership with Barneys New York for the “A New York Holiday” collection. However, a kick off party that was supposed to go down this Wednesday (November 20) to celebrate its launch has been cancelled.

Reports Racked:

The celebratory event surrounding the launch of Jay Z and Barneys’ New York Holiday collaboration has been cancelled. The Wednesday night event was to be held not at the Madison Avenue flagship but at an off-site venue, and was to serve as a fundraiser for the Shawn Carter Foundation. WWD notes that Barneys will issue a statement by the end of the day.

No word yet on what this means for the unveiling of the store’s windows, or the pop-up gallery installation planned for the third floor. Earlier today, it was revealed that the retailer and the rapper would up the charitable contribution from 25% of sales to 100% of sales.

As a condition for his continued participation, Jigga said he would take a “leadership role and seat on a council specifically convened to deal with the issue of racial profiling” with Barneys New York.

Cancelling the festivitieswas a prudent move considering since partying while issues of racial profiling circulate would surely have been seen in poor taste and have caused more bad press.
