Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine’s Beats Music To Launch January 2014

Beats Music, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s once mysterious music streaming service, will finally launch in January 2014. The forthcoming service was announce in January 2013, then going by the codename “Daisy.”

Reports Digital Music:

The service was previously scheduled to go live summer 2013. Although it does seem like Beats is late to the music streaming game they’ve been hyping up the service… making it sound like a magical game-changer. In a successful attempt to further the hype the Beats Music site is now accepting reservations for usernames.

Chief executive Ian Rogers announced the launch on his blog, saying: “I work with people who have patience and are more concerned about getting Beats Music right than pushing it out the door“. This group of patient people includes Jimmy Iovine, Luke Wood, and Trent Reznor.

Beats bought MOG in 2012, intending to base their music service off MOG’s technology. The service is going to be more than just a technological framework, they are emphasizing the importance of curation. Iovine even bashed other music services’ content curation strategies, saying “most technology companies are culturally inept“.

Beats By Dre is looking stronger than ever. In September, the company received a $500 million investment from a private equity firm.
