The storied discourse between Nas and Jay Z — now friends — during the late 90s and early 2000s birthed of the best displays of competition Hip-Hop culture’s ever seen. TDE’s ScHoolboy Q recently discussed the two legendary MCs during a discussion with Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg for Complex‘s “The Process.”
This portion of the conversation appeared in the outtakes. “I was a die hard Nas fan,” Q admitted before citing It Was Written as his favorite LP by the Queens rapper. He didn’t listen to Hov’s music until later, but he was equally blown away. “Once I really heard Jay, I’m like, ‘Wow, this n***a’s the best rapper ever,” Q said.
The Los Angeles native placed Jay Z over Nas in his ranking of the greats, but he believes Esco has better albums. Here’s to hoping that Q can put a classic out of his own with his highly-anticipated debut Oxymoron.
