Just when you thought the media whirlwind around 12 Years A Slave was over, in comes award show season to spark more conversation about the film. As it stands, Steve McQueen’s film leads all SAG Award nominations with four.

If all were to win, the adapting screenplay would sweep the night’s top honors. Along with the coveted cast ensemble nomination, Chiwetel Ejiofor, who played the eloquent Solomon Northup, is up for lead actor. Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o round out the crew’s nominees with the supporting actor and supporting actress categories, respectively.

August: Osage County, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, and Dallas Buyers Club follow with three nominations each.

The 2014 SAG Awards take place on January 18 at the Shrine Auditorium. It’s worth noting that the winner of the SAG ensemble trophy took home Best Picture at the Oscars nine of the last 18 years.
