The festivities for the 16th Annual Kappa Khristmas Jam & Toy Drive came to a screeching halt when members of the Kappa Alpha Psi and Omega Psi Psi exchanged fisticuffs, allegedly over the lack of female patrons.

The Black Greek struggle happened early this morning (December 16) at the Radisson Hotel close to the Los Angeles International Airport.

Reports say there were more than 1,000 people caught in the mix which included table and bottle throwing as well as multiple battles on different floors of the hotel.

Via CBS:

The fight broke out around 12:45 a.m. in the second-floor ballroom of the Radisson hotel, located in the 6200 block of West Century Boulevard, in Westchester, officials said.

The suspects were throwing chairs and tables, according to reports.

“I saw a fight and this guy got sucker punched and got knocked out completely,” one female witness said.

Omega Psi Psi President, Anthony Williams downplayed the situation a bit, telling CBS, “It was just crowd control. When you have that many people in one space, people start pushing each other and then pepper spray was dispersed and tensions arose.”

Although the two fraternities share a lineage in the “Divine Nine” of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, they’re not exactly always chummy with one another. Williams hinted that the brawl stemmed from a bit of machismo stating, “It was a bit of Alpha male mentality. People want to impress the females, y’know?”

The good news is there were no arrests, injuries or complaints on the Radisson’s end.
