An Indiana man caught speeding on New Year’s Day in Ohio may have been trying to ring in 2014 in an entirely different fashion than most. After a police officer pulled over Andrew Scott Boguslawski for the moving violation, 48 bombs and a collection of weapons were later found.
Boguslawski, 43, got special attention from the officer just outside of the city of Columbus on Interstate 70 after noticing a curious bumper sticker that read, “If you can read this, you’re in range.” From there, it all went downhill for Boguslawski after he told the cop he didn’t have weapons in the car although a handle of a gun was protruding between his knees. An Indiana man is in the Tri-County Regional Jail on a $1 million bond following his arrest with four guns and nearly 50 bombs.
Andrew Scott Boguslawski, 43, of Morris Hill, Ind., is being held, charged with one count of illegal manufacture or processing explosives, a felony of the second degree. He is set for a preliminary hearing Friday, Jan 10.
“I think there is a significant risk to the public,” said Assistant Madison County Prosecutor Nick Adkins, explaining the million dollar bond. “Until we can sort through the facts of this case and what we have here and what his intent was, it is necessary to keep the public safe.”
It was 11:40 at night when Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper William Davis clocked Boguslawski doing 85 in a 70 MPH zone. After asking about weapons and noticing the firearm, Officer Davis held Boguslawski until backup came. Investigators then found two handguns, two rifles, plans of a building and other materials along with the 48 bombs. Cops also seized a laptop, a GPS system and a camera.
What makes this case even stranger is that Boguslawski works in Indiana at a training facility for Navy Seals, but apparently has not made a formal statement about his plans with the explosives or why he was in Ohio. The prosecutor in the case says Boguslawski doesn’t have a criminal history.
