Charlamagne Tha God will forever express his disdain for the album but Kanye West’s sixth solo studio effort in Yeezus has gone platinum according to the RIAA’s guidelines.
Take the end statement with an asterisk if you will as Kanye’s polarizing project didn’t exactly sell one million copies just yet. It has shipped the magic number allowing him to earn the certification with the likelihood of those units eventually being bought by consumers.
Get it anyway you live, Yeezy.
Every album West has released has struck platinum dirt, including his 2011 collaborative album with Jay Z, Watch the Throne.
Yeezus was a clear departure of the conventional and accessible Hip-Hop that Kanye has used to make his name the biggest in his respective field. It spawned a couple of singles that did not crack the Billboard Top 10 (uncharacteristic of his discography) including “Bound 2,” whose music video featured him dryhumping his fiancée Kim Kardashian on a motorcycle. That being said, it was ranked #3 on Wired 25: The Best Albums Of 2013.
Kanye has maintained it was his grand design to make the album go against exactly what you expect from him, telling The Breakfast Club in a recent interview, he “intentionally” didn’t make fan favorite “Blood on the Leaves” the first track to “throw everybody off.”
The album’s controversial title and stance has propelled it to levels where the music failed to take it. An actual religion named Yeezianty was recently started to serve “The Church Of Yeezus.” It’s coinciding tour has also had its fair share of unforgettable moments.
