Chicago has yet another newcomer they can be proud of in Tree. Known for his raspy voice and strained delivery, he returns today with The @MCTREEG EP, presented by Scion AV.
This seven-track offering is the latest audible embodiment of a sound Tree coined “soul trap.” The Windy City native pulls from a range of influences, including classic soul, blues, and more, to create music that’s brutally honest (see “Soultrappin/I Believe” for proof).
Even with mainstay artists like Kanye West and Common comfortable in their positions and rising artists like Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Lil Bibby, there’s a lot of space for someone like Tree to flourish in Chi-town’s current landscape.
