Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Score 3 GRAMMYS Over Kendrick Lamar’s GKMC

The results for three of the biggest Hip-Hop oriented GRAMMY awards—Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album—are in. “Thrift Shop” tandem Macklemore and Ryan Lewis swept each category.

Who’s surprised? The Seattle natives struck big in 2013 with tracks like the aforementioned chart topper, “Can’t Hold Us,” “Same Love,” and more from their independent album, The Heist. Macklemore and Lewis have since become more omnipresent than not as they continue to relish in their role as media darlings across multiple demographics.

The elephant in the room in the duo’s GRAMMY wins is that they beat out Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city, which was the preferred selection of most Hip-Hop purists.

Ironically, the GRAMMYs weren’t sure if the minds behind The Heist should even be eligible for an award in the Hip-Hop category due to their Pop and mainstream success.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (as well as Kendrick Lamar) are nominated for a grand total of seven total GRAMMY awards.

Stay tuned with Hip-Hop Wired for more GRAMMY updates.

Well Macklemore does seem to be an odd choice for a rap win but let’s take a look at the voters for this discipline; the voters for each individual discipline are previous winners in the discipline (this would be rap winners) and experts in the same field, i.e. JayZ, Kanye West, The Fugees, Lauren Hill, Drake, etc. see how this goes? So if you don’t like the choice for a win you don’t have to look far to find someone to blame IMO.

So………… is this true? Just who *does* vote for the rap categories every year? How do we find out names?

it’s not true. those people named have boycotted the Grammys and voters are secret. that’s why they don’t release the voter panel. sway got the answers
