Pharoahe Monch – “Bad MF” [LISTEN]
Whether they admit it or not, rival rappers have been shook of Pharoahe Monch’s mic skills since they first heard him out yell Godzilla. Swag, trends and fads tend to come and go and fresh and 2014, The Pharoahe is reminding all challengers and crews what’s written on his wallet with unbelievable bars.
The rap world has demanded more conception and creativity since The Roots’ undun and Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city and Monch is happily obliging with his fourth album, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). It should thrill fans that the LP is slated to feature the likes of Black Thought, Talib Kweli, Denaun Porter, just to name a few, but that isn’t the brunt of its engaging qualities.
Monch will portray the role of an independent artist who is literally rapping for his life and sanity as he battles one of the most extreme forms of mental illnesses in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. You don’t have to be a soldier freshly removed from the battlefield to be afflicted and it should make for an invigorating listening experience.
First thing’s first, a stern reminder on just who is calling the shots is order and Monch and his co-defendant, producer Lee Stone give a blistering wake-up call on “Bad MF.”
It’s just a taste of what’s to come for PTSD so in the meantime, stream the song below and buy it on iTunes.
