Journalist Says Rick Ross Dodged Questions Over “U.O.E.N.O.” Controversy

Rick Ross has dealt with a few controversial moments in the media that he’s most certainly trying to move past. However, a journalist claims that the Maybach Music Group boss shut down their interview over the “U.O.E.N.O.” date rape lyric controversy and the rapper being dropped from Reebok.

In an interview with Noisey, Ross was asked by writer Ernest Baker about his line in Jay Z’s “F*ckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt” track where he raps “Reeboks on, I just do it n*gga,” mentioning that the lyric could be seen as a jab towards the shoe company in light of Ross losing his endorsement deal with the company. After Baker called what Ross did on track “taunting,” the interview shifted tone as Ross was clearly agitated by the use of the word.

From Noisey:

What would you call it? It’s not a negative word to me. You know, it’s like—
Stay focused, homie. Let me answer your question. “Reeboks on, I just do it n*gga.” Repping Reebok. You like Reebok?

I don’t really wear them as much anymore. Like, I’ve been a Nike n*gga. I wear Vans and sh*t like that.
Oh yeah, you a Vans n*gga.

Baker didn’t run the full interview, which was meant to focus on Ross’ upcoming Mastermind album, and instead blasted Rozay for ending the questions just as he was set to dive in for more details.

“His excuse for ending the interview was that other writers were waiting, but there was no rush when the writers in the room before me were taking selfies with him and asking questions about Valentine’s Day,” wrote Baker. “I’m in there for 15 minutes and we start drifting towards the date rape question and all of a sudden it’s time to go.”
