Guardians Of The Galaxy, perhaps the biggest leap in the Marvel movie universe yet, got a jump with the premiere of the first of what should be many trailers to come last night (February 18). The clip, which debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, reveals the main characters that make up the Guardians, featuring some slick visuals and special effects to boot.
The five Guardians – Drax The Destroyer, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Star Lord – are slowly introduced in the trailer as galactic outlaws while John C. Reilly, playing a yet unknown role, announces their crimes in succession. The clip actually opens with Star Lord, played by Chris Pratt, who enters a chamber where he grabs a blue orb. Soldiers surround him, and Star Lord sarcastically announces himself to the menacing men.
The soldiers haul Star Lord, a half-alien and half-human man, away to the prison where he'll meet the rest of his future squad.
Drax, played by David Bautista, is an alien hellbent on vengeance. Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana, is a green-skinned martial artist and adopted daughter of the super-villain, Thanos. Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, is a gun-toting raccoon. Groot, a tree-like being, is played by an unrecognizable Vin Diesel.
The plot revolves around Star Lord obtaining the orb that got him canned, after which the Guardians break out of prison to secure their prize. The Guardians face off against the powerful Kree alien Ronan and the mysterious Nebula, with the events of the movie possibly carrying over to the other popular Marvel films of recent times.
Guardians Of The Galaxy is directed by James Gunn and will air in theaters August 1 of this year.
