The Tanning Of America “Part Two: Fight The Power” [VIDEO]

Part two of The Tanning Of America documentary series focused on how Hip-Hop played a central role in the country’s then torrid race relations and making strides to properly represent people of color in the media.

Aptly titled “Part Two: Fight The Power”, the second installment of Steve Stoute‘s brainchild really shines with an engrossing retelling of key events and milestones from 1987 to 1992.

In this chapter a Hip-Hop lens placed on the back stories of the Los Angeles Riots, the murder of African American teen Yusef Hawkins, the protest of The GRAMMY’s inaugural Best Rap Performance award in 1989 and the voting trends that elected 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton in office.

Fans of the cult classic Cocaine Cowboys will see a strong similarity in presentation style as the special was produced by Rakontur Studios.
