300: Rise Of An Empire Cast Talks Recreating The Magic For New Film [PHOTOS]
Sequels to well-received action flicks are about as commonplace as stars on the Hollywood walk of fame, but anyone who is a casual fan of the movie culture can safely assume that 300: Rise of an Empire will be anything but atypical of what they’re used to.
The scribes over here at Hip-Hop Wired were privy to an early screening of the upcoming continuation of 2007’s cult classic 300 and we couldn’t be more satistified to experience an adrelanine-filled movie whose storyline was sturdy enough to weather the intense battle scenes.
300 director Zack Snyder conceded his top chair to the relatively unknown Noah Murro, who knew he had some large shoes to fill but was more than capable of meeting the challenge. “I think that we were recreating an epic on a soundstage that takes place on the water and there are multiple complexties to that part of it,” he said was the key to pulling off the feat (along with the ocassional prayer.”
Actress Eva Green, albeit new to the 300 family, is no stranger to early century thrillers (Kingdom in Heaven; Starz’s Camelot). She stars as the anti-heroine Artemisia and she really relished in her role telling the audience “It was very scary to have do all the squats and lunges but then it helps you for the fight and after awhile, you feel very proud of yourself. You feel very ‘powerful’ actually.”
Sparta’s warrriors may look like gods on the battlefield but similar to any humane conflict over the course of history, they deal with all emotions that war imposes itself on families. Leah Headey–who returns as the fierce Queen Gorga–explained how the cast’s acting chops weren’t exaggerated saying, “There’s no giant science to it. If you’re playing a parent who’s losing a son, there’s something real at stake and you don’t have to write every single word down; some of it is just done with pure emotion.”
300: Rise of an Empire gets six thumbs up from the Hip-Hop Wired cadre but you will get to experience it yourself, tomorrow March 7 when it hits theaters worldwide.
