Drake Announces “Houston Appreciation Weekend” [PHOTO]

When Drake first demanded national attention in 2009 with his instant classic mixtape, So Far Gone, listeners were immediately exposed to the Canadian’s love for his adopted home of Houston. The song “HoustonLantaVegas” was an ode to Houston, Atlanta and Las Vegas, respectively; the three places where he felt like he was privy to a surreal vibe that could be transcended through the music.

Approximately four years later, Drake is paying the city back which technically gave him his big break with a Houston Appreciation Weekend,” per a photo announcement via his Instagram account.

A relationship with Jas Prince, the son of the Rap-A-Lot Records mogul J Prince, proved to be invaluable after he introduced the soon-to-be Hip-Hop superstar to Lil Wayne and the rest was history.

Houston has a long storied history with Hip-Hop well before Drake was crooning about Texas’ biggest city. Artists such as Bun B and Slim Thug are still recognized on the national scale and past legends like the Geto Boys are getting their mojo back as well.

Together as a collective, rappers of Houston recently threw a concert titled “Welcome to H-Town” which also featured the talents of Paul Wall and Lil Keke.

As for Drake’s upcoming show, no select dates have been set as of yet but his October’s Very Own movement has been pretty active (and lucrative) this year.

OVO released a line of flandanas early in the year and was host to a “Drake Night” during a Toronto Raptors regular season game.

Check out the unoffical flyer of the event that Drake posted on the flip.
