Beastie Boys Reach A Settlement With GoldieBlox Over Copyright Infringement

The Beastie Boys and GoldieBlox have reached a consensus over the copyright infringement of the band’s smash hit “Girls” in a viral ad promoting the toy company’s engineering tools made for girls.

The legal squabble ensued over the commercial for GoldieBlox’s “Princess Machine,” which pulled from the lyrics of the Beasties’ 1987 hit to advertise a new gadget.

According to a spokesperson for GoldieBlox, who spoke to Rolling Stone, “The lawsuit between the Beastie Boys and GoldieBlox concerning GoldieBlox’s use of the Beastie Boys song” has been settled.

The settlement includes GoldieBlox issuing an apology via the company’s official website and allotting a percentage of the ad’s revenues toward Beasties’ choice charities that support education for girls.

In addition, the group’s claim was further reinforced by a stipulation in Adam Yauch’s will that specifically requests that “no image or name or any music or any artistic property” created by the late member be used for any kind of advertising.
