The Roots – “When The People Cheer” [LISTEN]
The Roots have a discography that makes them more than worthy to perform at Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2014. But today, the New York City radio station debuted a new song called “When The People Cheer” that could foreshadow more music to come from the legendary band.
This cut releases as The Roots crew are reportedly working on their 13th studio album & Then You Shoot Your Cousin. It’s easy to loose the messaging in the song’s hypnotizing soundscape, but we recommend that you stay woke for the nuances at all times. Of the two verses on the cut, Black Thought’s depiction of a relationship with an unnamed woman is most intricate.
Also, did we mention that & Then You Shoot Your Cousin is a concept LP? “It’s conceptual; it’s another concept album in the spirit of undun, but it’s not just about just one kind of character, we create quite a few different characters in this record,” Thought told XXL.
For the moment, a radio rip of the record must suffice. Stream “When The People Cheer” below and give us your thoughts in the comments.
