Pakistan needs to update the law books. A 9-month-old baby copped an attempted murder charge along with his dad and grandpa, because they (not him) threw stones at gas company employees and police as a show of protest on Feb. 1.
The baby — Mohammad Musa Khan — was taken into hiding, relatives said Tuesday (April 8). He was charged on a technicality because a now suspended inspector claims Musa’s entire family attacked him during the melee.
A week ago, Musa was carried (because he’s a baby) into a Pakistani court and fingerprinted and booked on attempted murder. He cried throughout most of the ordeal.
According to NBC News, the baby wasn’t taking his court appearance very seriously. He stopped crying when they gave him a bottle, but he also lost interest in the milk offer and “tried to grab journalists’ microphones as his grandfather spoke to the media.”
The grandfather, Muhammad Yasin, is outraged by the charge. “He does not even know how to pick up his milk bottle properly, how can he stone the police?” Muhammad asked.
“Police are vindictive,” he added. “Now they are trying to settle the issue on personal grounds, that’s why I sent my grandson to Faisalabad for protection.”
For now the baby is out on bond, and holed up at an undisclosed location probably napping and trying to keep his nose clean until his next court date.
He’s scheduled to go back to court April 12, but Yasin hasn’t decided if Musa will actually show up. Since he’s a baby, he likely has no say so in the matter.
