Aldon Smith, a star linebacker for the NFL‘s San Francisco 49ers, was arrested Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport after making what officials say was a fake bomb threat. This instance is the latest in a series of legal snafus for the player.

Smith, 24, was at the airport terminal entering the security gate when he allegedly yelled out “bomb” according to sources that relayed what they witnessed to TMZ Sports. Shortly after, police surrounded Smith and whisked him away. Smith was alleged to be drunk and also said that the TSA and others will be “embarrassed” for arresting him. A witness video shows the hulking Smith in handcuffs having a word with police.

Smith was booked at the Los Angeles Department’s Pacific division headquarters, and later released on $20,000 bail. According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, charges against Smith weren’t filed Monday and it could be some time before they come.

“Since he bailed out, it may be a while before any charges are presented to our office for filing consideration,” a spokesman for the DA’s office told CSNBayArea.com Monday.

A police report from LAX details the precise reasons why they detained Smith:

“At approximately 1400 hrs, a 24 year-old Aldon Jacarus Ramon Smith, a resident of San Jose, California, was going through Terminal 1 screening where he made a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb. Los Angeles Airport Police made contact with him in the gate area where he became uncooperative. After conducting their investigation, LA Airport Police took suspect into custody and transported him to LAPD-Pacific division where he was booked for California Penal Code 148.1(a) – False report of a bomb threat.”

Just last September, Smith was arrested on suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession., and there are previous charges still hanging over him.

In 2012, several illegal firearms were found in Smith’s home after a shooting and stabbing event happened at a party the fourth-year player hosted. He has pleaded not guilty to the gun charges.

The 49ers front office said they were “disappointed” at learning of Smith’s latest arrests but have no issued further comment. The NFL has not made an official comment as yet either.
