B. Scott Loses Transgender Discrimination Lawsuit Against BET

Popular transgender media personality B. Scott has been involved in a battle with Black Entertainment Television after Scott alleged the network discriminated against him at the 2013 BET Awards. Angry that the network made the flamboyant star change into attire to appear more manly, Scott launched a lawsuit that has since been ruled in BET’s favor.

In leaked documents that came out this year, BET hired Scott as a red carpet host for the awards ceremony but were displeased with his womanly look. The network knew that Scott is typically identified as transgender, yet ordered the host to change into what they felt was more befitting attire.

TMZ, which broke the original story by publishing leaked internal emails from BET, maintained from the onset it did nothing wrong. TMZ was on the case once more after reporting Thursday that the judge in the case ruled that the network had constitutional 1st Amendment rights to run its program whatever way the executives saw fit.

“It disheartens me that the message sent today wasn’t a message of acceptance, but rather it’s acceptable to discriminate against transgender individuals on the basis of their gender identity and expression,” said Scott to TMZ.

Scott’s attorney has plans to appeal the decision.
