Veteran rap trio De La Soul thrilled fans last month by unleashing the Smell The Da.I.S.Y. mixtape last month, featuring the crew’s classic bars over J Dilla production. The free download was well-received, but now fans can have the audio experience pouring from their turntables after the crew pressed up the release on vinyl.

De La Soul has been slowly reemerging on the scene after a ten-year absence since they last released an official group album. The Smell The Da.I.S.Y. mixtape has been the crew’s most significant release of late, and the limited edition vinyl is part of a deeper strategy to get fans excited.

From De La Soul:

What’s up y’all! We are happy to announce the release of the limited edition vinyl of “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” in-stores 4/18. The vinyl will be a all instrumental version of the “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” project. It contains 12 tracks that include all 11 of the “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” instrumentals plus one exclusive never heard before J Dilla beat.

We decided to release a all instrumental version of “Smell The Da.I.S.Y.” to give people the experience of a J Dilla beat tape that we were so lucky to receive. These beat tapes were the springboard that generated creation and generated inspiration for us.

De La Soul is only pressing 100 copies of the mixtape and are not giving the record a traditional store release. Instead, fans who wish the cop the wax need to head over to De La Soul’s website for clues on where to find the vinyl version of the mixtape. The crew was inspired to roll out the record this way in honor of J Dilla, a notorious crate digger.

Will you be copping the Smell The Da.I.S.Y. wax? Let us know in the comments if you find one.

The record is now available.
