DJ Kool Herc & Marley Marl To Participate In Month-Long Hip-Hop Festival In NYC

Even though the spotlight doesn’t shine as hard as it should on those who helped birth Hip-Hop, DJ Kool Herc and other pioneers will keep representing the culture in a month-long Hip-Hop festival in Queens, New York.

Herc, Marley Marl, The Zulu Nation and others will take part in a Queens Library project titled “31 Days of Non Stop Hip-Hop.”  As part of the series fans will be able rub shoulders with many Rap greats throughout several events in May.

“We want to capture and archive the heritage of hip-hop for future generations as part of the history of music and our collective culture,” said Joanne King, a spokeswoman for the library told DNAInfo.

Queens natives will also be able to showcase their relevant Hip-Hop memorabilia in the archive. Other activities include a Kool Herc and Marley Marl hosted “History of Hip-Hop” event, an MC contest, DJ battle and a breakdance workshop where fans can learn fundamental dance moves.

“31 Days of Non Stop Hip-Hop” on May 1st and will run until May 31st. The entire event schedule is available at the Queens Library website and all programs are free to the public.
