Twenty years ago, OutKast released their landmark debut album and ushered in a new sound for Hip-Hop with Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.

Arguably one of the greatest Hip-Hop group’s of all time, OutKast – who hail from the East Point section of Atlanta, GA – audaciously kicked in the door for Southern rap. No one sounded like André 3000 and Big Boi in 1994, both of whom boast offbeat personalities. With their then peculiar slang and southern fried poetics, OutKast combined funk, thick bass lines, fish and grits and all that pimp sh*t, in a catalogue of music that forever changed Hip-Hop culture’s landscape. ATL’s finest ultimately helped establish the South as a credible Hip-Hop scene amidst East Coast and West Coast rap.

In honor of such a timeless record from 3 Stacks and Big Boi, Hip-Hop Wired presents to you a slew of pics captured during the Southerplayalisticadillacmuzik era (circa 1994 – 1996). Check out the OutKast youngins by flipping through the gallery in the following pages.
