FLOTUS Shows Support For #BringBackOurGirls Movement [PHOTO]

The brewing situation in Nigeria involving the Boko Haram kidnapping of nearly 300 schoolgirls from a northern portion of the country last month has shocked the world. The “#BringBackOurGirls” movement launched recently has been steadily growing, and got a big boost when First Lady Michelle Obama showed her support.

Following President Barack Obama’s statements on the kidnapping earlier in the week, First Lady Obama’s involvement in the #BringBackOurGirls movement is quite the coup. She joins other prominent figures in the movement such as former First Lady Hillary Clinton, Mary J. Blige, among others.

First Lady Obama tweeted Wednesday from her personal account with a short message and a photo of her holding a white board with the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag displayed.

“Our prayers are with the missing Nigerian girls and their families. It’s time to #BringBackOurGirls. -mo,” read the tweet. The “mo” signature signifies that the First Lady actually wrote and sent the tweet.

The United States and Secretary of State John Kerry has announced that it is sending a task force of law enforcement officials and negotiators in an attempt to secure the release of the 276 reported schoolgirls who were abducted by Boko Haram, whose leader Abubakar Shekau says he intends to sell into slavery. The schoolchildren have been missing for 24 days, as the emboldened Islamist militant group reportedly seized eight more girls in recent days.
