The upcoming X-Men movie, Days of Future Past isn’t even out yet and Team Marvel is already announcing characters in their next films.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner casually told Total Film and fans worldwide that Hollywood heartthrob Channing Tatum will star as the raging Cajun mutant Gambit somewhere down the line. “It is Channing,” she assured during a red carpet interview for the aforementioned X-Men premiere. “He’s a rogue; Channing. He’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. And he can handle the action. We all know that. And he’s got a really good heart because I know him personally; I did a movie with him.”

Gambit’s mutant powers allows him to harness destructive energy into small physical objects (which he tends to prefer playing cards) but still maintains his humane side with a sarcastic sense of humor and acts of compassion with his fellow team.

“He’ll be great for Gambit,” Donner continued. “And he’s a Southerner too. He’s not from New Orleans [like Gambit] but he understands that world. And you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”

Tatum expressed his fanboy wishes to play Gambit in September 2013 and while there is no word as to exactly which movie it will be, it seems like it will be an electrifying reality. Given Tatum’s celebrity, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he got his own spinoff film à la Wolverine. The character was last played onscreen by actor Taylor Kitsch in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
