Alex Trebek has been hosting popular television quiz show Jeopardy! since 1984, thrilling audience members and home viewers with pop culture references. However, it appears that Hip-Hop has made its mark on the popular program, with the host dropping some old-school rap bars as part of the answer-question game format.

In a clip posted last week by Jeopardy!‘s YouTube page, Trebek and his three contestants are all in the “Double Jeopardy” portion of the game where the stakes are high. Announcing the category “The 1990s Rap Songs,” Trebek gamely puts on his best rap voice although to be fair he’s not trying to pass himself off as the next Hip-Hop star by any means. Not to give it all away, some of the answers to the quiz questions pull from acts such as Notorious B.I.G. and pothead icons Cypress Hill to name a couple. Amazingly, the contestants pretty much nail their answers.

We think Trebek and the Jeopardy! staff could have shut down the whole game if they actually played the backing instrumentals with the lyrics. That’s just us being hopeful, though.

Peep Alex Trebek rapping 1990s Hip-Hop rhymes on Jeopardy! in the clip below.
