Andre 3000 isn’t the only one bringing Jimi Hendrix to the silver screen. The guitar hero will be revived once more in the new flick, Jimi, starring Anthony Mackie as the deceased music legend.

Jimi, which looks at the last nine days of Hendrix’s life, was announced during the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend. The film was previously titled, Crosstown Traffic, with Mackie attached to play the lead, and Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, Captain Phillips) as director.

Ol Parker will direct Jimi, and his wife, Thandie Newton, will co-star in the film. Swedish actress Noomi Rapace is in line to play Hendrix’s ex girlfriend,  Kathy Etchingham.

Like the aforementioned Hendrix flick  All Is By My Side, starring Andre 3000, Parker’s film ran into trouble with the late musician’s estate. The discrepancy over the script apparently held up the project for years.

The film hasn’t found a distributer just yet, but is considered among the hot commodities at Cannes.

No production date has been announced.
