Nas, director One9 and writer Erik Parker’s Time is Illmatic documentary was such a hit at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, it just scored mega distribution on a global scale.

Reports MSN:

Rapper Nas’ new documentary has become a big hit at the Cannes Film Festival in France after landing a global distribution deal.

North American rights for “Nas – Time is Illmatic” were snapped up by Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film company earlier this month after it debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. And now the movie, directed by multimedia artist One9, has sold to Japan, Australia and across Europe. Executives at Submarine picked up the distribution deal on Tuesday.

The film centers on the release of Nas’ 1994 debut album, “Illmatic,” which is considered by many to be one of the most important hip-hop records of all time.

It was announced a little over a week ago that Tribeca Film acquired the North American rights</strong> to the film. A proper theatrical release is planned for October 2014.
