Lupe Fiasco stopped by the Hot 97 Morning Show to promote “Mission,” a song dedicated to cancer awareness, and the corresponding weareonamission.org site. But the conversation also touched on his upcoming Tetsuo & Youth album, “THOT 97,” and his thoughts on Kendrick Lamar not being the best rapper in his age bracket.

“My grandmother passed away from cancer — very quick though,” said Lupe about the partial inspiration for the campaign. “It wasn’t a long drawn out… it wasn’t no chemo therapy treatment.” But when a close friend was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer, it inspired him to pen the aforementioned record and create a movement behind it.

The cut is the lead single from Fiasco’s Tetsuo & Youth LP, which has some solid guest appearances including Big K.R.I.T., Ty Dolla $ign, and Ab-Soul. This, of course, sparked a Hip-Hop conversation between the Chicago lyricist and co-host Peter Rosenberg about who’s currently the best rapper. This is when things got heated.

Fiasco accused Rosenberg of “nut hugging” Kendrick Lamar, though he’s admittedly a fan. He also said that Logic, King Los, and Cassidy are lyrically better.
