Tupac’s Cousin Creating A Biopic Of His Own To Rival Existing One

Everybody wants in on the Tupac biopic and those that couldn’t get on board, are taking matters into their own hands.

At least that’s what Tupac’s cousin, William Lesane is doing.

After raising a reported $15 million for the project, Lesane is set to begin shooting The Rise and Fall of Makavelli The Don in Mexico.

Reports Deadline:

Lesane said he secure the commitment from Giovanni De Francisci, the portfolio manager of Petschek Trust, along with Monegasque Movie Productions, the latter of which will make its debut on the film. Said Lesane: “The time has come to tell the real Tupac Shakur story, the movie his fans really want to see. Any movie that is produced about Tupac has to tell a truly great story with a bold statement attached.

Our movie does that in spades…I lived this story with my cusin and paid tremendously for it.” Ed Arena is casting the film.

Usually in cases of competing music projects, the first one in production wins.

In April of this year, Open Road Films acquired the rights to the long developing Tupac biopic and committed to it being screened in 2,000 theaters, all but making it inevitable that it would finally see the light of day.

Being close to the late rapper most likely allowed Lesane to a very different vantage point from covering his life and death. Check out his 2013 interview with Murder Rap author Greg Kading below.
