The tumultuous life of music icon Whitney Houston is coming to the big screen and unlike the Tupac biopic, there wasn’t a lengthy time period in picking the lead role.

Yaya DaCosta of America’s Next Top Model and Lee Daniel’s The Butler fame has been cast to portray the late singer with the golden voice. According to TVLine, the movie is currently titled Whitney Houston and will primarily focus on the ups and downs in marriage with singer Bobby Brown.

Lifetime will air the TV-movie sometime in 2015 and Angela Bassett, who starred alongside Houston in the 1995 cult classic Waiting to Exhale, has been brought on board to direct the film.

Houston died in 2012 by accidental drowning in a Beverly Hills hotel right before the Grammy Awards. She had a long history with drug abuse and cocaine in her system at the time of her death was documented on her autopsy.

DaCosta’s credits also include guest spots on All My Children, House and Ugly Betty and even appeared in a few Hip-Hop videos. Most notably being Jay Z’s “Roc Boys” from 2007’s American Gangster.

Take a look at a few of her personal pics in the gallery below to see if you can see the “Whitney Houston” in her.
