R. Kelly’s Child Announces He Is Transgender
R. Kelly’s youngest child has come out as transgender. Born Jaya Kelly, the 13-year-old now identifies himself as Jay, a revelation that he recently publicized on his Ask.fm profile.
Jay fielded mounds of questions from the public, including inquiries about how long he’s identified himself as transgender. “Around the age 6-8 i felt like there was something wrong like i was trapped, but i didnt know what transgender was until i grew older,” he replied to one individual.
His mother Andrea Kelly, the 12 Play singer’s ex-wife and star of VH1 reality series Hollywood Exes, has been aware of her son’s transition for a year and has been very supportive. “[My mom] was like, ‘Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, [lesbian], you name it and I would still love you so much,'” he said. “She was very proud of me, I was like, ‘Thank you mum for accepting the fact that I’m a transgender.'”
Kelly has outwardly supported her son’s decision on social networks like Instagram. However, Jay’s feelings towards his father aren’t quite equatable, as neither he or his little sister are close to the singer.
R. Kelly reportedly hadn’t learned about his son’s transition until three months ago, and “has not reached out.”
