Young Thug has garnered a fair share of attention via popular singles and feature appearances in recent months, and a mentor in Forbe’s Hip-Hop Cash Kings regular Birdman to boot. That’s a hell of a feat for an artist who was reportedly amid label limbo, though Revolt TV reports that his business dealing recently became more concrete.

According to a piece by BuzzFeed, Thugga, an Atlanta native, had a production deal with Gucci Mane through his 1017 Brick Squad imprint via Atlantic Records. During that time, he delivered his breakout 1017 Thug mixtape February 2013, but things went awry when Gucci was incarcerated the following September. Soon after — with the mindset that his previous deal was voided — Thug signed to Artist Partners Group, also an Atlantic imprint.

Thus the root of his issues.

But label executive Kevin Liles, one-third of the power trio (Lyor Cohen and Todd Moscowitz) that created the new label, 300, has cleared up Thugga’s label confusion. “We have a deal with Young Thug that I’m excited about,” Liles confirmed with Revolt. The former Island Def Jam executive vice president also announced that Migos have a deal as well and that there are four more artists he’s close to signing.

“Our business motto is this, if you’re out there taking risks, we wanna reward you with a great deal,” Liles explained. “There should be no cookie-cutter deal. There should be a smorgasbord of deals that we could do with entrepreneurs. We built a platform, similar to what we did with Roc-A-Fella, Murder Inc., Disturbing Tha Peace, Ruff Ryders, we just provided platforms for people to build companies.”

Per the aforementioned BuzzFeed story, Atlantic reserved the right to shift Young Thug’s deal with APG to 300 at any time. .
