Conversations about Black comedy have grown less divisive over the years, because the numbers show that there’s a clear cut favorite in Kevin Hart. But while speaking with the Hot 97 morning show, the Think Like A Man Too star explained why the crown belongs to living legend Dave Chappelle.

“Dave Chappelle is the baddest person to touch a microphone that’s alive right now,” Hart said. He went on to describe the oft-recluse comedian’s style as unpredictable, and referenced the night he witnessed Chappelle’s greatness firsthand.

“Me and Chris Rock, we’re at the Comedy Cellar — this nights is one of the best nights of comedy just by accident,” the Philadelphia native recalled. By chance, Chappelle also showed up to practice some jokes following Hart and Rock’s time on stage and killed the crowd.

He continued, “Dave was up probably for 20 minutes. There was a moment when me and Chris look at ourselves and the jokes that we just had we were going over. At the same time, we balled the sh*t up.”

Hear Kevin Hart speak more on Dave Chappelle, his attempt to propel black film to great heights and more below.
