Upon hearing Los Angeles newcomer Cozz’s audible battle cry, “Dreams,” it was clear that he was a young MC with ample potential and the ability to articulate his perspective. J. Cole must agree, because he’s recruited the bubbling rapper to the Dreamville/Interscope family.

Cole is known to be very aware of rising talent at the upstart of their careers. This includes rappers like Kendrick Lamar, who he attempted to sign before he knew of TDE’s existence, and his early co-sign of perhaps one of Hip-Hop’s next big stars, Chance The Rapper. Now it’s Cozz’s turn.

“All I can say is thank GOD, tha whole committee squad, and @JColeNC for tha opportunity..tha take over begins #dreamville #committee,” he tweeted to announce the alignment.

As a raw lyricist and a West Coast native, the youngster adds another interesting dynamic to the Dreamville collective. With Cole at the helm, the clique also includes early favorite Bas, who delivered Last Winter in April, Omen, and KQuick.

None are as young as Cozz, nor do their stories sound anything like what he kicks on “Dreams” or more melodic tunes like “I Need That.”

Look for Cozz to debut his first project, tentatively titled Cozz & Effect, hopefully sooner than later.
