The sensationalist media is known for twisting rapper’s words in hopes to generate some sort of beef to boost ratings.

MC’s can be cryptic and secretive all the same, leaving fans and journalists with nothing but speculation at their disposal. It’s the way of the world and a general win on both sides, but in the case of Nicki Minaj vs. Iggy Azalea, the Barbie has had enough of their supposed feud.

Rumors of their artistic tension began when Forbes stepped out of their jurisdiction and proclaimed Iggy to be the Queen of Hip-Hop. While her dominance on the Billboard Charts with the hit single “Fancy” is nothing to scoff at, anyone who has at least a few toes deep into the culture knew that headline was simply untrue. Minaj’s 17.8 million Twitter followers vs Iggy’s 1.66 million all but tell the tale even if you have never heard either woman’s music.

Notions of healthy competition versus a general disdain for the model Australian weren’t squashed at this past Sunday’s BET Awards, when a flustered Minaj gave a somewhat bizarre acceptance speech as she beat out Iggy win Best Female Hip-Hop Artist for the fifth year in a row. Her repeated quoting of “no shade” accompanied with her beautiful grin alluded that to the assumption that she was indeed letting The New Classic girl know who was boss.

As the BET clamor died down, Nicki stepped on her Twitter soapbox in attempts to dead the beef talk once and for all. “The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us!,” she exclaimed. “I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should b proud.”

Iggy apparently agreed and wrote a lengthy response on her Instagram admitting that it wasn’t “her year” at the BET Awards and she’s exhausted with seeing her name intertwined into drama.

Check out the Nicki and Iggy’s responses in the gallery below. Sorry, gossipmongers. Nothing to see here but l-o-v-e.
