Omar Leonel Vela Omar Leonel Vela was once mayor of Progressive, Texas. The Feds indicted him along with his father and brother on charges including conspiracy, theft and mail fraud. Vela and his family members stand  accused in a “pay to play” scheme to obtain bribes by giving contractors specific city projects. The fraud deal dates back to 2004 up until the time of his indictment. Vela has pleaded guilty to the charges and will be sentenced this month. He faces up to a decade behind bars.

    You forgot Edward McIntyre Sr., the first Black Mayor of Augusta, Ga. from 1981-1984. Mr. McIntyre resigned after his Federal conviction in April 28,1984. He served 5 years in prison.
