Sharpe James Sharpe James held concurrent positions as mayor of Newark and New Jersey State Senator from 1999- 2006. In 2008 Sharpe was indicted on 33 counts of corruption. A jury found him guilty on five counts involving him selling city property to his ex-girlfriend for $46,000, which she sold for more than $600,000. James was released in 2010.

    You forgot Edward McIntyre Sr., the first Black Mayor of Augusta, Ga. from 1981-1984. Mr. McIntyre resigned after his Federal conviction in April 28,1984. He served 5 years in prison.
