GLAAD Pissed Over Lack Of Gay Characters In Hollywood Films

With the endless amount of films that are churned out of movie studios each year, the concept of diversity seems to be an automatic assumption.

GLAAD doesn’t seem to think so and for its second annual study of Hollywood studio content, which analyzes the number and role impact of LBGT characters in major films, they handed out harsh grades to most of the offending companies.

Via The Wrap:

In its second annual study of Hollywood studio content, GLAAD found that of the 102 releases from the major studios in 2013, 17 of them included characters identified as lesbian, gay, or bisexual — and a majority of the characters were minor roles or cameos. That is up just slightly from 14 of 101 films released in 2012, but this is the first year that “Hunger Games” distributor Lionsgate is counted as a major studio, meaning that the other six made no sum improvement.

A deep dive into the stats reveal that:

>> Of the inclusive films, 64.7 percent featured gay male characters, another 23.5 percent featured lesbian characters, 17.7 percent involved bisexual characters, and 11.8 percent featured transgender female characters.

>> Of 25 LGBT characters, 19 were white, three were Black/African-American, two were Asian/Pacific Islander, and one was Latino.

>> Only 4 of 43 genre films (including action and sci-fi) contained LGBT characters; 8 of 19 comedies were inclusive; five of 28 dramas were inclusive; and there were no LGBT characters in any animated or family-oriented films or documentaries from the seven studios tracked.

Transgendered Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox is currently nominated for a Emmy Award but GLAAD decided to drink from a half full glass in this situation. They took an extreme exception to the scene from 2013’s Pain & Gain where Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson served up a fade to a perverted priest (pictured) as well as Ken Jeong pseudo-gay antics in The Hangover series.

m tired of the GLAAD pushing there issues to the world. No one cares that people are gay or bi…..It seem that the GLAAD community makes it there issue to push their relevance in an society today. SHUT UP and give people time to wanna hear yall voice instead off wanting to push it in everyone faces.Because as people there are so many more important issues in the world today…….

When I hear unnecessary bs like this the only thing that comes to mind is “but did you die”……like really they reaching. I can see if they found no one from the LGBT community had roles. And who knows there may have been more, everyone doesn’t want the world to know what’s going on in their bedroom. Next it’s going to be not enough LGBT cartoons and book characters. Let the writers tell their stories how they want to without being pressured to create Special roles just to please one group….Get Over It Please
