Ludacris Will Get President’s Award At 2014 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards

Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges has been collecting plaques and awards for his music since 2000, and now he’ll be granted another high honor. Next month, Ludacris will be bestowed with the 2014 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards President’s Award.

Ludacris hasn’t released a proper LP since 2010, but has put out a series of mixtapes since then. With an equally lucrative acting career to go along with his music aims, the Illinois native has kept busy. Broadcast Music, Inc. president and CEO Mike O’Neill announced in a statement earlier today why BMI has selected Ludacris for the award.

“The President’s Award is bestowed to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in songwriting with profound global influence on culture and the entertainment industry,” said O’Neill.

O’Neill continued, “Christopher ‘Ludacris’ Bridges’ songs traverse boundaries and reach listeners of all genres, making him a global presence. Additionally, his philanthropic efforts go beyond measure with the work he does by way of his charitable organization, The Ludacris Foundation, making him a natural for the BMI President’s Award.”

As BMI noted in a press release, Ludacris has won three GRAMMY awards, five Billboard awards, and has sold nearly 20 million records in the United States alone. His eight studio album, Ludaversal, is slated for a fall release.

The BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards will take place Friday, August 22, at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.
