Phoenix Suns forward P.J. Tucker may want to invest in hiring a designated driver during the NBA offseason.

The 29-year-old European journeyman is facing charges on Arizona state law of “extreme drunk driving” after being popped on May 10 with a blood alcohol level of .222. The state legal limit is 0.08, making Tucker’s case nearly three times the legal limit when it comes to operating a vehicle.

According to the NBA Associated Press, Tucker was slurring his speech with bloodshot eyes when a Scottsdale police officer pulled over his Mercedes-Benz. During the field sobriety test, Tucker nearly toppled over due to his drunkenness.

Both the Phoenix Suns and Tucker’s attorney Melanie Beauchamp declined comment regarding the incident.

The timing of the charges couldn’t have come at worse time for Tucker. He just signed a three-year, $16.5 million contract – $12.7 million guaranteed – contract with the team last week. It’s definitely not the time to rock the boat.
