Lil Durk Pleads Guilty To Gun Charge
Durk “Lil Durk” Banks was facing up to five years behind bars following last year’s incident where Chicago police saw him put away a loaded handgun inside a car parked in Englewood.
Thanks to one judge, the star rapper has been given a second chance and the opportunity to help alleviate mass incarceration by advocating non-violence.
Via Chicago Tribune:
Prosecutors had recommended Banks receive at least a year in prison or a term of intensive probation, but Judge Joseph Kazmierski Jr. sentenced him to 18 months of probation and the 43 days Banks had already spent in jail.
The judge urged Banks to be “part of the cure,” saying the rapper could continue to use his celebrity for anti-violence causes.
“The key word is I’ll be staying out of trouble,” said the 21-year-old, after pleading guilty to gun possession charges in exchange for probation. “You can put a capital ‘N’ — for never.”
As per the rapper, fans can expect to hear about his experience with the criminal justice system on his upcoming debut album “Remember My Name,” due out later this year. “I’m going talk about everything that’s gone on, everything that’s happened this past year — the violence, the deaths, the court,” he said.
