Imagine being years into your marriage, only to discover you’ve been married to one of your siblings. This shocking instance came true for a woman in Brazil who unknowingly married her brother after connecting with her lost mother.
The Daily Mail reported on the story of Adriana, 39, and Leandro, 37, who were both abandoned as children. Growing up in separate towns, the couple has been trying to locate their birth mothers for years. Adriana went on a local radio station, Radio Globo’s Time Is Now show, which connects lost relatives with one another. Adriana and her mother, Maria, were reunited on air but she revealed that she had another child, Leandro, that she gave up as well.

As it becomes clear that it is the same Leandro that she was married to, Adriana is heard weeping uncontrollably: ‘I don’t believe that you’re telling me this. Leandro is my husband,’ she sobs.
At the end of the interview she says: ‘Now I’m scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn’t want me any more. I love him so much.’
Adriana and Leandro – who never married legally – yesterday told Radio Globo that they would stay together, despite the bombshell that they are actually brother and sister.
Adriana said: ‘Only death is going to separate us. All this happened because God wanted it to happen.
Yikes.
Although Adriana and Leandro knew their birth mother’s name, it was so common that it didn’t raise concerns for them. The couple have a six-year-old daughter and promise to stay married despite the possible criticism. The couple has also forgiven the mother, and plan to have her visit.
